Kennedy Energy Park Erosion Assessment
Erosion assessment and remediation for renewable energy infrastructure
Project Owner
Windlab
Location
Hughenden
Completed
2025
Civil IQ undertook a site-wide erosion assessment for Kennedy Energy Park near Hughenden, identifying the causes of erosion affecting access roads, drainage infrastructure and solar farm assets. Practical remediation options were developed to improve site resilience while recognising the operational constraints of a remote renewable energy facility.
Project Overview
Civil IQ was engaged by Windlab to investigate numerous erosion sites throughout Kennedy Energy Park and develop practical remediation recommendations. The assessment considered erosion affecting solar arrays, access road crossings and pavement failures caused by concentrated stormwater flows.
Working within an operational renewable energy facility, Civil IQ assessed existing site conditions, reviewed available geotechnical information and developed practical, cost-effective remediation strategies suited to the site's remote location. The recommendations focused on improving long-term performance while making effective use of available materials and existing infrastructure.
Challenges
- Limited existing investigation and design information.
- Remote location with the nearest quarry approximately 100 km away.
- Existing drainage infrastructure that was undersized and prone to blockage.
- Developing practical remediation options within an operating renewable energy facility.
Outcomes
- Developed practical, cost-effective erosion remediation solutions.
- Maximised the use of existing and stockpiled site materials.
- Delivered detailed reporting identifying erosion mechanisms together with remediation options and associated risks.
- Worked closely with site maintenance personnel to understand operational requirements.
Scope
- Site investigation
- Soils and geotechnical assessment
- Unsealed pavement remediation design
- Technical reporting
