300 kilometres of firebreak design for the Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative.
Project Overview
Civil IQ prepared the detailed design for approximately 300 kilometres of perimeter firebreaks within the Greenvale Training Area (GVTA), supporting the Australia–Singapore Military Training Initiative (ASMTI).
The project involved developing a complete civil design package, including firebreak geometry, stormwater crossing designs, basis of design reporting, 12d modelling, bill of quantities and RPEQ certification across a vast and environmentally diverse Defence training area.
Working within challenging terrain and complex site constraints, the design delivered practical, constructable solutions that supported Defence's operational requirements while coordinating with a large multidisciplinary project team and stakeholders.
Challenges
- Steep terrain along the eastern perimeter requiring alternative alignments and design solutions
- Design of approximately 1,200 waterway crossings and causeways across the training area
- Developing an accurate 12d civil model to generate reliable quantities and construction documentation
Outcomes
- Delivery of more than 600 IFC drawings complete with RPEQ certification
- Practical, coordinated design delivered on time and within project requirements
- Successful collaboration across a large multidisciplinary Defence project team
Scope
- Detailed design
- Basis of design reporting
- Unsealed road / fire break geometry design
- 12d modelling / drafting
- Stormwater crossing designs
- Bill of quantities
- RPEQ certification
